Whilst at this gallery I was also introduced to two amazing portuguese photographers that were unbeknown to myself – Paulo Nozolino and Augusto Alves da Silva unfortunately neither of them have a personal website I can find.
Pente 10 Gallery – Artist Alexandr Glyadyelov
A cousin of mine showed me round the gallery where she is working. Quite possibly one of the best galleries for contemporary photography in the country Pente 10 gallery www.pente10.com, the space for the gallery having been designed by the emerging architect Francisco Aires Mateus http://www.airesmateus.com/. The gallery had several interesting artists once of which is Alexandr Glyadyelov, the sun of a Soviet Army Officer who develops his prints in a bath tub at home. This photographer who now lives in Kiev has covered armed conflicts in Moldova (where he was wounded), Nagornij Karabakh, and Chechnya. Since 1996-1997, Glyadyelov has concentrated on long-term documentary photography projects: socially deprived children and the HIV / AIDS epidemic. In one of his most marking projects he depict a drug addict injecting himself in the neck later on he photographs the funeral of that same individual. Alexandr Glyadyelov very much portrays the despair a poverty facing many ex-soviet block countries. For more info on this artist please visit: http://www.glyadyelov.com/
PORTUGUESE CULTURAL POLICY
Whilst doing my research on museum funding in Portugal, I cam across the the following two web-sites, both of which have an abundance of infromation on museum policy in Portugal – for those interested in the subject:
COMPEDIUM – CULTURAL POLICIES AND TRENDS IN EUROPE
‘The Council of Europe/ERICarts “Compendium of Cultural Policies and Trends in Europe, 12th edition”, 2011 is a web-based and permanently updated information and monitoring system of national cultural policies in Europe. It is a long term project which aims to include all 50 member states co-operating within the context of the European Cultural Convention.’

EUROPEAN HERITAGE NETWORK
‘The European Heritage Network is a permanent information system bringing together governmental services in charge of heritage protection within the Council of Europe. The European Heritage Network focuses on cultural heritage, particularly on architectural and on archaeological heritage.’
PHOTOGRAPHERS – INSPIRATION PORTUGAL
Whilst in New York I have been surprised to find numerous photographs being sold at auction whose subject matter is Portugal. Below are some of these photographs.
